Festival season is well and truly under way, with Sonar, Hideout, Melt, and the Isle of Wight Festival already crossed off the calendar. Even on a Glastonbury-less year, there's ample competition from the masses of home-grown and European festivals. There are quite a few festivals still to get excited about, such as the brilliant Berlin Festival.

With Fusion and Melt out of the way now, attentions turn, excitement brewing, to the Tempelhof takeover. The disused airport will be once more be brimming with an enviable line up of indie and electronic acts – the party continuing after hours at Arenaclub in Kreuzberg, which also boasts the Glashaus and outdoor Badeschiff venues to boot.
Berlin's attracting more and more visitors and a loyal army of expats each year, largely here for the inexpensive but incredible music scene and night life. Holidaying in the city has never been more worth it than when combining the trip with a weekend-long festival.

Playing at this year's event will be The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Friendly Fires, Metronomy, Kate Nash, Miike Snow, Nicolas Jaar, Sigur Ros, Modeselektor, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, SBTRKT and lots more. Also just added to the acts are Soundtrack of our Lives and Simian Mobile Disco.

There's more to look forward to: the hotly-tipped Mobile Disko featuring residents of Berlin's best clubs, dancing in the largest Silent Disco and having a peak at the urban art and design installations and performances in the Art Village.
