After several shows in cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei and New York, Chanel’ s most anticipated exhibition is eventuallycoming to London.
From October 12th to October 29th, 2012 the Saatchi Gallery - Duke of York’s HQ in London's King’s Road – will host Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibition which is composed of 113 beautiful pictures by Karl Lagerfeld depicting one of the most iconic pieces of clothing of all time: the jacket.
Ever since Mademoiselle Coco first managed to make women wear this typical male garment everyone has worn it, everywhere and for any occasion: from ballerinas to rock stars; for business meetings or parties; to convey a classy or an edgy-sexy look, the black jacket is a real timeless passe partout. It has the same allureof a little black dress, but it is unisex, it suits everyone. Some examples? Just look at Kanye West and Sarah Jessica Parker, Riccardo Tisci and Stella Tennant, Alexander Wang and Anna Wintour, Haider Ackermann and Carine Roitfeld who are just afew among the numerous personalities who posed wearing Chanel’s Little Black Jacket. They all interpret it according to their attitude, but they also play with its versatility and the result is really evocative.
The former editor in chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld was not just a model for Keiser Karl, but she also worked on the realization of the book which will follow the exhibitions. The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited will be released in the autumn and contains 113 portraits, all friends of the House, each adapting the garment to reflect their own inimitable style - worn as a cape on singer Lily Allen, draped around model Stella Tennant, or even transformed into a vest on model Edie Campbell.
